You may wonder why, in this world that is so overwhelmed with information, so overpopulated with blogs and websites, why add another one to the mix? What do I have to say that makes me any different from everyone else? Well… I have a story to tell, and my hope is that by telling it, I can connect with people and make a difference in their lives.
I’m a teacher. I graduated from James Madison University in 2003 with a degree in Music Education, concentration in flute. My first teaching gig out of college was as the middle school and high school band director at a school system in northwestern Virginia. From there, I taught private music at a small studio in central Virginia. Since then, I’ve taught middle schoolers graphic design, and have now moved on to teaching yoga.
I think that one of the reasons that teaching resonates with me is the opportunity to impact another life. If I could reach even one student, help them to realize their passion for music or even just create some positive change in their life, then I was living a life worth living. My passions have evolved since those early years of teaching, but my desire to have a positive impact has not changed. More on those changed passions later…
So, my hope in writing this blog is to share my story and have an impact on at least a few people along the way. I’ll admit my mistakes and hope that someone else can learn from them. I’ll tell of my passions and share my inspiration, and hope that someone else can become inspired by them. Something that I have come to believe strongly is that connection is one of the most important aspects of humanity. Alone, we are nothing. Together, we are capable of amazing things.
I intend to live out my days pursuing my passions, living in the moment, saving the world one day at a time. Bold words, you say?
As Helen Keller once said, “life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”
